The end of the summer is swiftly approaching but this never really seems to be the case for Marbella as the sun constantly shines on our beautiful coastline affording a wonderful year round climate. With just over a week left till the end of August and the end of the high season, there is still time to take a whirlwind tour of the city of Marbella. A weekend can be just enough time to get to know the most characteristic and emblematic sites the city offers, although we are sure that you will leave wanting more and to return to the sunny capital to visit in depth and discover further the great range of activities it offers.
If you are already packing your bags whilst reading this blog, you will be glad to know that Marbella is a city perfectly communicated for this type of weekend breaks. Easy access by train, Malaga offers the AVE fast train service, the airport (which reaches more than 120 countries) is only a 40 minutes’ drive from Marbella city centre. The coast road returning from the airport begins to give you an idea of the beautiful coastline the area offers with miles and miles of blue sea and sandy beaches. One of the best things about Marbella is that you can get around easily either by car, or walking as city traffic isn’t a problem. Car rental options are highly requested and gives total when it comes to what and where to visit.
One of Marbella’s main attractions is the marina of Puerto Banus; on a quick weekend trip this is a great place to start your Marbella visit. Each Saturday boasts a unique feature; located in the area of Nueva Andalucía’s bull ring is a charming street market as well as an artisan afternoon/night market in the Antonio Banderas square (during the summer months), with a recreational area ideal for children of all ages. In the marina you will find exceptional yachts, exclusive luxury cars and the fashion centre of the city, with high quality boutiques such as Louis Vuitton, Versace and Dior; along with a large number of bars, clubs and restaurants for every taste.
Taking a wonderful stroll to Marbella centre along the beach front promenade on The Golden Mile, we will find some of Marbellas jewels, such as: The Ralli museum where we will find famous pieces by several Spanish and Latin American artists. The two most emblematic hotels in the area such as the Hotel Puente Romano and Marbella Club as well as various well known beach restaurants such as the “Chiringuito” Victor’s Beach or Trocadero Beach.
As we reach Marbella centre we get a glimpse the Marina, with a great Marina nightlife with pubs and bars. Here we can visit two beautiful natural focal points of the area; the Constitution Park and the Alameda Park. Before reaching the latter you can walk up from the promenade along the Avenida del Mar, full of Salvador Dalí statues.
Finally you will enter the most Andalusian part of Marbella old town, with typical white washed facades and winding cobbled street. Our advice is to simply wonder through the streets and be taken away by the charm of the city. These streets lead to the famous Plaza de los Naranjos “Orange Square”, where you will find the Town Hall, the historical fountain and the bust of King Don Juan Carlos. Walking through the streets adorned with typical planting such as geraniums, handmade plant pots and other natural decorations. The Church of the Incarnation (the main one of the city, built in the 16th century) is a great place to visit as well as the National Engraving Museum surrounded by the famous city ruin walls from what once was the Arab castle of the city. The shops, cafes and restaurants of the historical centre will give you a great idea of the culture that can be experienced in Marbella.
To simply finish off a quick visit to Marbella, Nueva Andalucia is another important area to visit with amazing viewpoints looking down over the golf valley to the sea, following with a game of golf on the world renowned courses below. As the summer season comes to an end, the next important Marbella season begins with the golf season; Marbella continues to host golf tournaments and welcomes visitors to play on the large variety of courses that are offered along the coast.
