The history of Starlite in Marbella was written 7 years ago, when Sandra García-SanJuán and Ignacio Maluquer envisioned the old Nagüeles quarry (the granite extracted here used in Puerto Banus) as a great space for music, with large walls of rock formations enabling spectacular acoustics. This is located in the upper part of the Golden Mile, next to developments such as Sierra Blanca, Camoján or Marbella Hill Club. It is designed to be enjoyed at night; the night sky embraces the stars that walk the carpet of Marbellas best annual event. Starlite is well placed, fighting to be known as the best boutique festival in Europe. Six years running Starlite is consolidated as the longest festival, with over 45 days of on-going concerts. Music, culture and gastronomy coexist in one single space. A unique venue for those who want to enjoy an intimate concert close to the starts themselves in an unbeatable location. Artists of the likes of Enrique Iglesias, Elton John, Lenny Kravitz, Jason Derulo, Lionel Richie, Ricky Martin, Tom Jones, Pet Shop Boys, Alejandro Sanz, Luis Fonsi, and tenors such as Andrea Bocelli and Plácido Domingo have left their mark on the Starlite stage throughout the years offering unforgettable concerts. The media impact that Starlite has had during these years has been impressive. In its six previous editions, it has managed to book over 150 artists, with 600 celebrities, and in its last year it had over 200,000 visitors. All together Starlite offers a unique experience not only whilst concerts are taking place but throughout the high season, the quarry is full of life. The line-up for this year 2018 Starlite is very varied with music from the most famous Deejays on the planet such as the Nervo sisters, DJ Nano, Martin Solveig or Hardwell. You will be amazed by the magic of Jorge Blass. International artists who make us dance with their greatest hits such as Luis Fonsi or Romeo Santos ideal for Latin lovers. Steven Tyler, Jamiroquai, James Blunt will be the English vocals that will fill the quarry, and Spanish artists such as Pablo Alborán, Melendi, Estopa, Stool etc… We can even enjoy the four voices of Il Divo. A location for all kinds of tastes and styles.
The event brings together the best of international celebrities, which give even greater international visibility to the city. It has not become a well-known Spanish brand for its leisure activities alone and its presence in Mexico, but the Starlite Foundation plays a very important philanthropic role. The social project of the festival dedicates one night to the celebration of a Gala that this year will be held on 11th August, whose hosts will be the actors Antonio Banderas and Sandra García-Sanjuán. All the funds raised during this gala are allocated to different charitable causes, among which the ‘Niños en Alegría’ and ‘Lágrimas y Favores’ foundations stand out. These foundations are dedicated to the creation of schools in the Mexican state of Guerrero, and to help the training of university students suffering from cancer in Malaga, respectively.
In addition Starlite has created its own app for Smartphones and signed a new agreement with Uber that will facilitate access for attendees. The service can be requested from anywhere on the western Costa del Sol, including Malaga, Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Mijas and Marbella, which means covering a radius of over 60 kilometres. Mobility is always one of the great challenges during the festival. For transport and getting around this year, the assistants to the event will have discount codes with Uber and will be taken to unique arrival and collection points.
