We could say that three main colours make up the Marbella landscape. The yellow of the sun and fine sand beaches such as those of Los Monteros or of the Golden Mile, the blue of its clear skies and the Mediterranean Sea, and finally colour green. Green is a very predominant colour of the Marbella panorama because due to the wonderful climate and tropical nature we are surrounded by vegetation. The growing city has contributed to producing such beautiful scenery by taking advantage of its surrounding land and making magnificent golf courses. With over 50 golf courses between Malaga and Sotogrande offering a large variety of design along with fantastic views from the sea to the mountains, you can play virtually year round under the Spanish sun, hence the Costa del Sol begin also known as the Costa del Golf. Some of the best facilities and infrastructures can be found just inland from the coastline. If the area of Nueva Andalucía is also known as “The Golf Valley” due to the number of golf courses in the area including: Los Naranjos, Las Brisas, Aloha, Dama de Noche or Magna Marbella; the area of Benahavis should be respectively named ‘The Second Golf Valley on the Costa del Sol’. Undoubtedly Benahavis is one of the most unique areas along the Costa del Sol, with a remarkable Moorish past, charming whitewashed houses, typical Andalusian flavours and aromas as well as picturesque alleys and nooks. One of the great nicknames of this area is that of ‘El Comedor de la Costa del Sol’ (the eatery of the Costa del Sol) due to its countless number of restaurants and bars, it has become a gastronomic centre of reference, less we not forget that it also has several high quality golf courses.
La Zagaleta and Los Barrancos
Starting from the northernmost part of Benahavis in the private reserve of La Zagaleta, home to some of the most spectacular and unique properties, we find two 18-hole private golf courses. The La Zagaleta Golf Course and the Los Barrancos Golf Course are located at the foot of the mountains of the Serranía de Ronda. Due to their elevated position, they enjoy unparalleled sea views, with a spectacular clubhouse ideal for relaxing between games.
Los Arqueros Golf & Country Club
This golf course has a special relationship with the sport and Spain. This is because it was opened in 1991 and its designer was none other than Severiano Ballesteros, one of the best golfers in the world! His aim was to design the course without changing the landscape. Los Arqueros enjoys great prestige, and with regard to the real estate market it offers villas and apartments in Los Arqueros, of exceptional quality.
The Quinta Golf & Country Club
27 holes divided into three courses allows for a variety of options when playing 18 holes. It is a very comfortable and fun course that adapts to all levels of difficulty. Its complexity lies in the unevenness of the course and its deep bunkers. Currently the headquarters of the “Benahavís Senior Masters”. La Quintas social scene revolves around the golf Club House, with a restaurant, bar and café as well as boasting an excellent golf academy.
El Higueral
El Higueral golf course is undoubtedly distinctive thanks to its predominant lake. From Los Capanes del Golf apartments you can appreciate this technically marvellous 18-hole course.
Los Flamingos Golf
Los Flamingos, is one of the most attractive areas on the Costa del Sol, it is a development located in a completely isolated valley dedicated to golf. The most unique feature of this impressive location is that it offers views to the sea, golf courses, natural lake and to the mountains. The development is composed of villas and diverse gated communities such as the highly sought after Tee5 or Tee6. There are three golf courses: Flamingos Golf where you can enjoy wonderful views to the Mediterranean Sea, Alferini Golf which is ideal for holding competitions and big tournaments and finally Tramores Golf perfect for improving your short game in the golf academy.
Atalaya Golf
Set at the boundaries between the areas of Benahavís, Estepona and Marbella; Atalaya Golf is a well-known resort on the Costa del Sol that has two golf courses, most notably the oldest one that was Bernard von Limburger, German Golf Champion in 1925 and who later became one of the architects of the most prestigious golf courses in his country.
Marbella Club Golf Resort
Horizontally above the Villa Padierna Hotel, we find this first class golf course. This course is exclusively dedicated to be used by the guests of the Hotel and also thanks to a limited amount of players; it has established a 30-minute margin avoiding large agglomeration of players.
Monte Mayor
Adjacent to the Marbella Club Golf Resort, we find the lush green landscape of this course designed by José Gancedo, who has created one of the most challenging and spectacular courses on the Costa del Sol.
