The Guadalmina area is a unique location within the Marbella municipality, on the boarder and dividing Marbella and Estepona with is unique river. ITS HISTORY
Originally the area of Guadalmina and its river was built along an old Roman road that connected Cadiz to Cartagena.
The Guadalmina river was formerly of defensive strategic importance for the people of Marbella; its waters also served to power watermills for grinding grain into flour. Although La Concepción reservoir is the primary water source for this municipality; it is formed by a diversion dam on the Río Verde, where the waters of the rivers Guadalmina, Guadalmansa and Guadaiza join and are collected and transported to provide a water supply to towns along the coast from Benalmadena to Casares. Due to its long history, various important archaeological sites have been discovered: next to San Pedro de Alcantara, at the river’s mouth, are archaeological sites including: The Basilica de Vega Del Mar (one of the few examples of North African Visigothic churches built in Andalucia in the 6th century, the 3rd-century vaulted Roman baths of Las Bóvedas (the Domes) and the eponymous watch tower of Torre de Las Bóvedas, all possible to be visited when in the vicinity.
ITS FEATURES
The renowned Real Club de Golf Guadalmina with its course beginning in Guadalmina Alta and finishing right on the beach in Guadalmina Baja. Opposite the Golf Club is the original commercial center of Guadalmina, still operating today with shops, bars and offices. The Barcelo Hotel group also has a large 4* hotel in Guadalmina Alta with exterior pools and hosts multiple events thought out the year such as conferences, weddings and parties. At the edge of Guadalmina Alta just before the main road that divides the areas, is a large commercial center “Centro Comercial Guadalmina” offering banks, restaurants, supermarkets, offices, bars and restaurants as well as plenty of parking and individual shops.
ITS RESIDENTIAL AREAS
Guadalmina is a well-established residential area, highly sought after from its luxury beachside villas and mansions, to its ideally positioned townhouses and apartments surrounded by golf and nature. Guadalmina is best known for its peace and tranquility whilst being only a few minutes’ drive to all amenities and services. Divided by the A7/N340 road creating Guadalmina Alta (the upper part) and Guadalmina Baja (the lower part), the upper part is known for frontline golf residences and the lower part for its beachside proximity and large private villas on flat plots.
GUADALMINA ALTA
Guadalmina Alta is home to multiple well-known developments as well as a large established family villa community.
To the north, Valle Del Sol (a more unstructured, natural environment) with villas and large plots many keeping animals such as horses as well as riding school. Lower down villas that were built frontline to the golf in the late 1980’s and 90’s, now many refurbished to be stunning modern homes with breathtaking views.

GUADALMINA BAJA
Guadalmina Baja is known for its large extremely private villas, wide tree lined streets, small church “capilla” that holds wedding ceremonies, and grand beachfront hotel, well known Spanish private schools “Colegio San Jose”, all alongside the Guadalmina Golf Course.
Guadalmina Baja is also home to a variety of established townhouses and apartment communities to the east, also ending on the beach with the gated community of Parque del Sol, one of the apartment communities with largest apartments in size and sea views. The wide grand streets of Guadalmina give a sense of grandeur to the large residences that reside here, with approximate plot sizes ranging from 2.000m2 up to 8 and 10.0000m2 of beachfront private residences.
