Estepona, a change of look and the rise of the New Golden Mile

Estepona has become one of the most significant enclaves on the Costa del Sol in recent years. Its proximity to Marbella, Puerto Banús and Sotogrande together with easy access to Malaga and Gibraltar airports have helped boost its claim to be an ideal location for real estate and residential investment. The Costa del Sol continues to evolve, as the market improves in many cities including Marbella thanks to large investments so have the luxury areas extended around the capital. Areas that were previously not considered exclusive have become residential oases with high quality housing, vast gardens and their own individual identities. The areas around Marbella that we would like to mention include San Pedro and Guadalmina, or specific areas in Benahavis such as La Quinta, El Madroñal or La Zagaleta. In this blog Marbella Unique Properties has decided to talk about the renovation of the areas of Estepona and the New Golden Mile from its stunning beaches to its wonderful hills and mountains.

Estepona has considerably grown with time, starting as a small fishing village (like many cities along the Costa del Sol) to becoming one of the most sought after holiday destinations. 25 kilometres west of Marbella, home to a beautiful coastline of over 20 kilometres in length with incredible beaches protected by the Sierra de Bermeja mountain range. This city has managed to maintain its original charm with typical pebbled streets that has attracted visitors since the 1960s. The charm of its old town full of boutique shops, jewellery stores, handy craft and artisan shops along with small intimate bars, supermarkets and banks fulfilling every necessity and requirement. Recent years have also brought aesthetic changes to the city, upgrading the city and stylising the streets with colours and decorations creating a uniform and unique style. Each street is assigned a colour or pattern bringing together its green areas with colourful plant pots full of typical geraniums giving the streets a new stylish look. Murals and façade paintings have also played an important role in the rejuvenation of Estepona, with some of the high rise apartment blocks presenting fantastic colourful facades. You can walk through its streets following the Artistic Route of Murals admiring the work created by local artists and professional mural artists. There are many more additions to the city such as the well-known Orchid Park, where an impressive construction of three glass domes houses over 8,000 different species. The Felipe VI Theatre a stunning venue for all kinds of events, including live musicals, theatrical productions and exhibitions in this 600-seat auditorium focusing on promoting the local arts. We must not forget to mention the beautiful Marina of Estepona, every Sunday its streets are filled with a wonderful street market. Visiting Estepona city is a great place to visit any day of the week!

Without a doubt the eastern part of Marbellas residential area continues to increase in value with areas such as Elviria, Santa Clara, Los Monteros … but the Western area of Estepona continues to emerge undoubtedly with top quality modern apartments and impressive villas. Years ago people searching for luxury properties in exclusive areas wouldn’t have looked beyond Marbella, but times change and the high demand for Costa del Sol luxury properties has brought change. High quality properties are well known on the market for being in areas further away from the town centre, in areas such as Sierra Blanca or Benahavis and the new showcase for these properties is the New Golden Mile, located between Estepona and Puerto Banús. Development of this area has been carefully planned with low rise buildings and in keeping with the environment, everything being built within the coastline laws therefore producing a highly sought after area for purchasing properties.  Beachside on the New Golden Mile boasts fantastic quality developments such as Costalita, Cabo Bermejo, Torre Bermeja and Hacienda del Sol, which are very popular with buyers from northern Europe. Its similarities to the original Golden Mile are numerous, a beautiful coastline bordering the area of Puerto Banus with wonderful beaches; high quality luxury properties with quality construction materials are the foundation for these beautiful properties. We will also find 5 star hotels in the area including hotel resorts such as the Kempinsky or Las Dunas and additional to the exclusive Laguna Village shopping centre, an equestrian centre, restaurants, golf courses and much more…

Estepona has accepted Marbellas and the other cities on the Costa del Sols challenge and has followed the pace of urban growth by achieving its own exclusive luxury areas and renewing its historic city centre. Recent years have been the last push towards creating an international city on the Costa del Sol with excellent results. Do not hesitate to contact Marbella Unique Properties if you want to belong to the New Golden Mile.
